Place Cards, Escort Cards

& Seating Charts!

It's Tidbit Tuesday Time! This week we are talking about a place card, an escort card and a seating chart. What's the difference? I'm glad you asked and I would be happy to tell you!

Place cards (photos 1-3): These are set at a specific seat at each table. Place cards are usually more decorative, and bring out a fun element to a place setting. They usually just have the guest's name on them. These are great examples of what fun options you can do!

Escort cards (photos 4-5): These are normally set out on a longer table for your guest to grab on their way to the reception location. They usually have your guest's full name, table number and entree selections (if you are giving options). Two extra Tidbits that I give my clients with escort cards are to have them in alphabetical order by last name, it is quicker for guest to grab them and find their table, and if you are giving options, have their entree choice on the front of the card, not the back. It makes it easier for servers to see.

Seating chart (photos 6-7): There are two ways to use seating charts. One is that it will tie in with a place card. If you have specific seats assigned, your guest still need a way to know what table they are sitting at. A seating chart will tell your guest what table and the place card can tell them specifically which spot. Option two is if you are serving the same meal or a buffet and just want your guests to know which table they are at, but you don't have assign specific spots, you would just have a seating chart indicating which table. An extra Tidbit for seating charts are to have it laid out alphabetically by last night and not by table number. Yes, table numbers can look more cohesive, but it takes longer for your guests to find their seats. Having it alphabetically by last name makes for the transition to go more smoothly.

Photos 8-10 are from a wedding I worked this past weekend. They had a buffet, so there was no need for the place cards to indicate the guest's meal options. They just had their name beautiful written out on a place card at ever seat. They also had a small seating chart with the guest's table number on it. They did have it by table number but they also included a QR Code that brought you to an electronic version of the seating chart so you didn't have to take time to find your name which blocking the seating chart from other guests.

This is a great topic for Tidbit Tuesday and I think we might dive into each of these more. So stay tuned for more Tidbit Tuesday and let me know in the comments which one you used for your wedding or which on you are thinking of using! If you have any questions, leave them in the comments. Cheers!
